Dreaming and Writing: Imagine What Life Could Be Like In Ten Years.

Kurt sat in his chair, carefully wiping off the sweat from his face. The lights on the stage seemed to radiate more heat than usual that night. He had a ten minutes break before the arrangements for the next run started, and he had to be careful with his makeup until then.

“Daddy!” an excited voice called out from behind him. Smiling broadly at the familiar and heart-warming voice, he quickly turned around and kneeled on the floor with his arms open.  A blurry, small figure ran straight into them.

Kurt was quick to lift the boy into the air before hugging him close. The little boy giggled loudly as he threw his arms around Kurt’s shoulders and hugged him tightly. “Did you enjoy the show, Michael?” Kurt asked him while he put him back down.

“He sure did,” another voice spoke up. Blaine ruffled their son’s hair lightly as he stopped to stand next to him. “You should have seen how big his smile was whenever his daddy started singing,” he laughed, his grin almost splitting his entire face.

Arms open in invitation, Kurt gestured for Blaine to come closer. He did so immediately, wrapping his arms around his husband’s waist. Kurt pulled Blaine closer, pressing a kiss against his lips. It was such a familiar action already, yet it always felt slightly new.

They lingered like that for a few seconds longer than usual, before Blaine reluctantly broke the kiss. “You were great,” he whispered, his warm breath gliding across Kurt’s lips. Kurt smiled at that and bumped their noses together as a silent ‘thank you’. Blaine pulled away from their embrace after that, returning to stand by their son’s side.

“It’s because later I get to brag about how amazing Daddy is!” Michael explained, already sounding extremely proud of his father.

Blaine lifted Michael into his arms, holding him against his chest. “We wanted to come and congratulate you for your stunning performance before someone’s bedtime arrived,” Blaine said, bouncing Michael as if to explain exactly whom he was talking about. Kurt just rolled his eyes at his husband’s goofiness, which somehow managed to remain endearing even after all the years they have been together. “And when you come home, we’ll celebrate,” he shot him a wink with that last part, his grin becoming slightly devious.

“You promise?” Kurt teased with a smirk of his own. They each held that look for a short moment, anticipation bubbling inside them. Between work and their son, they hadn’t had the chance to be alone together for a long while now. Blaine actually broke down a week before, begging Kurt to just call a babysitter and go to a hotel room so they could be together.

“But I want to celebrate too, papa!” Michael protested, pouting slightly at Blaine, which made both Blaine and Kurt laugh.

“We’ll celebrate again in the morning,” Kurt promised him. “You should get going now, it’s getting late.” He pressed a chaste kiss to Michael’s forehead and one to Blaine’s cheek as he wished them both a good night. He couldn’t help but smile fondly as he watched the two men in his life leave.

Kurt smiled to himself at the thought of that scene actually happening in a couple of years. Marrying Blaine, adopting a son, being a Broadway star, it all seemed so perfect.

“Kurt?” His head snapped upwards from its lowered position at the mentioning of his name. Blaine, who sat in front of him, was leaning towards him. His eyebrows were slightly furrowed and his eyes showed a little concern, which made Kurt think he might have been calling his name for a while now. “Is everything okay?”

Smiling brightly at him, Kurt nodded. “Everything’s perfect,” he promised.
